Executive
Level Management Skills
Target
Audience
This
course is most effective for managers with at least
1-2 years of experience who are ready to move to the next
level of management. They should have already taken a basic
management course such as Coaching and Counseling for Improved
Performance . In terms of the 360-assessment tool,
the direct reports completing the survey should have worked
for the manager for at least 6 months.
Course
Description/Objectives Two to four days
Because
the managers attending this course possess varying degrees
of experience, the course is customized to meet the specific
needs of each individual manager. Through the use of a 360-assessment
tool, each manager is able to assess his or her own management
style, as well as that of their manager and their direct
reports. Once the manager gains a better understanding of
themselves and their direct reports, they can focus on building
a more effective team.
In addition,
by gaining insight into the management preferences of their
team, managers learn why they may label certain people as
"difficult," and develop a plan to manage them
more effectively.
Participants
use the results of the assessment tool to develop a
personalized plan that helps them to:
- Lead
with vision, mission and strategy
- Deal
with difficult people
- Build
and manage a successful team
Each
manager leaves the course with a specific development
plan for each of their direct reports as well as a rough
outline of a strategic plan to increase the effectiveness
of their district, division, or business unit.
Additional
Optional Course Activities
Many
companies look for "best demonstrated practices"
within their organizations. An advanced manager training
session provides an opportunity for disseminating best-
demonstrated practices to the rest of the team by offering
workshops led by a manager who is proficient in a particular
skill. Examples of these types of workshops are:
- Strategic
use of promotional budgets and T&E
- Managed
care strategy
- HR
case studies - handling the tough cases
- How
to develop a strategic plan for your business
- Building
your team - advanced techniques for interviewing and hiring
- Effective
use of sales data
- Streamlining
administrative tasks
This
workshop format also provides a developmental opportunity
for the managers who aspire to the next level of management.
Agentive partners, who will provide expertise in adult learning
and assist in writing presentations and designing workshop
materials, will facilitate workshop development.
