Team Performance

Leveraging Talents to Create More Effective and Productive Teams

Pre-requisite: None

Description: Years of research tells us that the most successful people are those who focus on honing their talents, not trying to fix their weaknesses. When you are working in your "talent zone," you have greater energy and enthusiasm and are more productive. When everyone on the team is working in their individual "talent zone," team productivity soars. Identify the core talents of each team member. Match people with tasks based on their talents. Appreciate how different talents compliment each other or can be at odds with each other.

Objectives:

  • Briefly describe the research behind the benefits of focusing on our talents.
  • Define three key areas that have a positive affect on employee productivity
  • Explain why productivity increases when employees are in a position to leverage their talent
  • Define and describe their top 12 talents
  • Describe the five categories of talent:
    • Understanding talents
    • Trust building talents
    • Asking talents
    • Motivational talents
    • Organization talents
  • List the top two or three talents for someone with whom they work closely such as a manager or co-worker.
  • Describe how their talents may be similar or different from their manager or co-workers and how those similarities or differences may affect their working relationship.
  • Develop a plan for how to leverage their talents for optimal performance.
  • Focus on an upcoming task or project and explain how to best utilize their talents to realize optimal performance.
  • Participants will describe the similarities and differences between their talents and those of their manager. They will develop a plan to capitalize on complimentary talents and compromise where differences are in play.
  • Define the four step-process for delivering both positive and negative feedback to peers
  • Practice delivering feedback to peers

Client Testimonial
This program really helped me understand how some people on my team are just wired very differently than me. I figured out why Cathy asks so many questions and why Jim always likes to know the history of the situation. It also allowed us to talk openly about certain frustrations we have with co-workers in a very non threatening environment."
